Building Mental Endurance: Lessons from Running Uphill for Real Estate Success
Running can be an excellent metaphor for life and business. As a successful real estate agent, you know that the road to success is not always smooth, and sometimes you may encounter unexpected uphill battles. However, it's important to remember that these challenges are what build our strength, both mentally and physically.
As I was out on my morning run, I encountered a long downhill stretch (See photo below), and although it was a great relief, I could see a large uphill climb in the distance. My initial reaction was "FUUUUUdge," but then I accepted the challenge and mentally prepared myself to tackle it.
This obstacle reminded me of the day-to-day challenges we face in our businesses. Sometimes the uphill battles we know are going to be hard are at the bottom of something easy. If we only do the easy work, we won't get the results we desire.
Just like running up hills builds muscle, stamina, and mental endurance, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone in business builds the same. The muscle you build from prospecting, making phone calls, and doing the hard things has a tremendous impact on you in so many other areas of your business and life.
It's not always easy to take on the tough tasks, but the rewards are worth it. Don't shy away from making prospecting calls, taking on challenging clients or situations because those are the opportunities that will help you grow and develop into a better real estate agent.
So, as you go about your day, remember that running up hills builds muscle, stamina, and mental endurance. Just like in business, doing hard things will help you grow, and the rewards will be worth it.
So, my recommendation to you, fellow friends and real estate agents, is to embrace the uphill battles and do the hard things. Don't let fear or doubt hold you back from pushing yourself and your business to the next level. Remember, running up hills builds muscle, stamina, and mental endurance, and the same holds true for your professional life. The more you challenge yourself, the stronger you will become, and the more successful you will be. So, go out there and do hard things!
